Harbor Ridge Middle School

Harbor Ridge Middle School sits on a site at the ridge of the harbor in the lovely community of Gig Harbor. The school was built in 1921 as Union High School but through the years of multiple add-ons and remodeling the school eventually became a middle school. The land on which the school was built was donated by the Lucy Goodman family to be used for a school. In the early 1990’s the community recognized that the old but beautiful building and its coveted site were in great need of modernization.

Demolition and construction of part of the campus was completed in 2004. In August of 2006, phase 2 of the multi-year construction project was completed for a total rebuilding of the school.

Building Condition

The facility now includes 14 classrooms, 4 science labs, a state of the art computer lab, art and wood shop areas, home arts lab, band, choir and drama classrooms, a performing arts stage and multi-purpose gym. A student Commons and food services kitchen provide the students with an open seating area for lunch and other activities. A beautiful library with a view of Mt. Rainier and Gig Harbor makes this school one where “the view is so good you can see the future.” The outside facility has been updated to include an artificial turf field and increased staff and community parking.
